The IRCC Caregiver Program is designed to allow foreign caregivers to work in Canada and, under specific conditions, apply for permanent residency. The program is divided into two main streams:
1. Home Child Care Provider Pilot
This stream is for caregivers who have a job offer to care for children under 18 years of age in their own home or in the employer's home. Caregivers must meet specific eligibility requirements, including language proficiency, education, and relevant work experience.
2. Home Support Worker Pilot
This stream is for caregivers who have a job offer to provide care for seniors or individuals with disabilities, chronic illness, or other high medical needs. Like the Home Child Care Provider Pilot, applicants must meet eligibility criteria to qualify.
To qualify for either of the caregiver pathways, you must meet the following criteria:
Job Offer: Possess a full-time job offer from a Canadian employer in home care.
Language Proficiency: Achieve a minimum of level 4 based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).
Education: Hold the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma.
Work Experience: Have recent and relevant work experience.
Admissibility: You must be admissible to Canada, meaning you do not have any criminal or medical issues that would prevent you from entering or remaining in the country.
